Le Bath Room for a press conference about Balnea Spa’s Detox Cure and after hearing about their unique floating baths, we knew we had to give it a try.
You don’t have to travel all the way to the Dead Sea to benefit from the healing powers of hypersaline water, because Le Bath Room has replicated the experience right here on St. Denis street. If you’ve never visited Israel’s Sea of Salt before, the experience is notable for the sensation of floating, the quickened healing of wounds, the drop in inflammation, and the increase of your body’s circulation – to name a few. One hour in the floating baths ($65) at this recently revamped Plateau spa and you can reap all of those benefits without crossing the globe.
The added perks of taking a salt bath right here in Montreal? Total privacy, for one. When we arrived at Le Bath Room for this unique treatment, generally uninformed as to what they had in store, we were led into a private room with nothing (and no one!) but a shower, a dial to control the light and music, and a large, circular bath. We were instructed to shower, strip down and get in the tub, where we were told to stay for an hour’s time. We have to admit, the prospect of sitting alone in a room, sans iPhone, in the darkness caused a slight pang of anxiety. But as soon as we got in the floating bath, turned up the spa music and turned down the lights, all stresses and anxieties dissolved away. If that’s just too much me time for you to handle, you can also opt for a Couples Bath ($95) which allows entry for two.
The first thing that struck us about the baths was the utterly cool sensation of floating, which was actually enough to keep us amused for a full sixty minutes. We could hardly believe that our hour was up when the jacuzzi started up again to signal the end of the treatment. After a quick rinse to wash away the saline residue, we noticed softer skin, silkier hair and healed nicks and scrapes. If you’re going to treat yourself to a massage ($130) this month, we’d recommend having it here if only for the sixty minutes of bath time it’ll grant you. We doubt you’ll regret it.
