If you’re planning a summer wedding, chances are you’re already on the hunt for the perfect dress and have moved on to cake tastings (a reason to get married in and of itself). But if you still have a few items on your to-do-before-I-do list, you really need to head down to Maddy K.’s Bridal Boudoir Affair taking place this Sunday at the Hyatt Regency Hotel (level 4, Foyer du Salon Alfred Rouleau). The event runs from 10am to 5:30pm with a fashion show between 1 and 2pm.
We recently sat down with the lovely Maddy K. to get her top five wedding trends for 2012.
She said: Instead of just one cake, we are seeing numerous small to midsize singled layer cakes displayed on a sweet table or even on a cake table on their own!
We say: The more cakes the merrier!
She said: It’s all about the fifties with artisanal sweet tables inspired by retro foodie trends. Indulge with tasty treats like whoopie pies, chocolate-covered almonds, mini-donuts and multi-tiered cheese wheels and nuts!
We say: What? No Joe Louis?
She said: Metallics are back in – Silver and Gold are very hot this season as accent colours for weddings. There is also a shift toward more classic and traditional weddings, which is a pleasant change from the rustic and uber-modern minimalistic affairs we’ve seen in the past few years.
We say: Who can argue with shiny things?
She said: Girly frills and ruffles are very in. On cakes, wedding dresses, linens and accessories!
We say: No more no-frills affairs.
She said: You’ll see more pastel coloured bridal gowns in mint, grey and shades of blush, instead of the traditional white dress.
We say: What are the bridesmaids going to wear. White?
Guest speaker Alison McGill, Editor-in-Chief of Wedding Bells magazine, will be talking about more of the hottest trends for this year at the Boudoir.
